10 Year Emblem Design
Open Door Legal (ODL) is a non-profit based out of San Francisco leading the charge in universal legal access. In May 2023 I, Giovanni Herrera, collaborated with ODL to design an emblem that represents a decades worth of justice. The emblem would later be used to produce their 10 year anniversary hat.
Rough Drafts
Below are 3 rough drafts of the emblem as well as 3 things I kept in mind while designing them:
I need to Incorporate Open Door Legal’s “Key” logo in the emblem.
I need to use a color palette that coincides with ODL’s branding.
I need to Imply that ODL has hit their 10 year anniversary.

After analyzing the rough drafts I noticed 3 things:
I had good art direction but the roughs felt as if they had too little or way too many elements.
I need to soften harsh edges.
I need to adjust the color palette.

Final Draft Mock Ups
After designing the final 3 emblems I held an org wide 3 day poll which included the emblem png file plus 3 hat mock ups. In this poll, ODL staff chose which design they favored the most. The emblem with the most votes would be the official 10 year hat design.

Following multiple rough drafts, 3 final drafts, and an org wide poll -Option A was the 10 year anniversary hat design winner!
